Last week Year 1 visited the Botanic Gardens in Rome as part of our first Project and science topic which is at present underway in class. The children were very excited at the possibility of traveling on the bus and on the way to the gardens we were lucky enough to see armed tanks on the GRA and see some of the most famous sites of Rome on the way. One of those, the ‘Tevere’ was particularly appreciated by the majority of the children in class. Once arrived at the gardens, the children eagerly started to explore the gardens with the help of guide who explained different characteristics of each plant. The children asked and answered questions when participating in the 5 senses workshop and, on a whole, thoroughly enjoyed their day. The Garden have more than 3,000 species of plants living there, a Japanese Garden, greenhouses with tropical species including orchids and bonsai, and Giardino dei Semplici, a monk-inspired garden filled with medicinal plants.
