“The Romans” is our first topic in Year 3 this year and we’ve been learning all about their way of life. Our project is not quite done yet but we wanted to have an entire day dedicated to the Romans and to continue discovering what life was like in Roman times.
The day started with a cooking session. A bit of flower and salt, some olive oil, 
yeast, just enough hot water and agile hands came together to make two Roman style loafs of bread. It was a little sticky on our fingers, and the flour smells funny when you mix it with the water and yeast but we had a great time… and made two beautiful loafs!
In the afternoon we played “Rota” for the very first time. We each made our own rota boards earlier this week, and like true Romans we can now play anytime and anywhere we want. Any kind of counter will do, three for me and three for you, and whoever manages to block the other player and put his three counters in a row first wins! You need to pay attention and it takes a bit of thinking, but we all won at least a round today!
Later, we were introduced to Roman numerals and started putting together our information posters that you will be able to see in the classroom next week, and where you’ll discover many of the things we’ve learned about life in Roman times.
And of course, to end the day, we had a feast on our homemade Roman bread, eaten with honey and grapes.
